Although bluefin tuna populations have been starting to increase under new management plans, they are still listed as endangered by the IUCN Redlist and populations are very low compared to historic levels. So, if you ever see bluefin tuna on the menu of a high-end restaurant, avoid it!

If you live near the coast, avoid buying seafood from the grocery story because it is often packaged and sold from large commercial fisheries. Instead, find a local fish market to support small-scale fishing efforts! Better yet, check out your local regulations and consider learning how to collect your own seafood.

If you eat seafood, make sure to inquire about the fishing practices behind your dish. Check out SeaFood Watch by the Monterey Bay Aquarium to discover fisheries near you that are sustainable and safe! They even have an app too.
